Documentary Reflection

In "The Peoples Portfolio," I observed many images and messages. The portfolio that stuck out to me was "Sexual Violence in the Congo" because of its striking images and the intense emotion in them. These images are of dozens of individuals fighting against the sexual abuse of women in girl in the Congo. The message of the portfolio being "My body is not a weapon" is a powerful statement that signifies that war crimes like this one are the epitome of injustice and horrific acts. This touched on my emotions because through personal experience, many individuals believe they can overpower someone by taking advantage of their bodies. I feel this portfolio is a strong and powerful message, and this photo of doctors and people helping a woman shows a sense of community and the fight against these war crimes.

This is an image of children that live in an orphanage in Haiti and I. I chose this photo to reflect my connection to the world around me. In travelled to Haiti in 2020, and got to do community work with the surrounding towns. It really changed and impacted the way I see the world. In the photo, I am giving my bracelets to the children, because they were so intrigued by them, and it was the least I can do for them.
