The Internet, The World Wide Web, Bluetooth and Wifi!

    The internet, as we all know, is universally accessed technology that we use everyday. But did you know that the internet was not created by a single individual but rather developed over time by various researchers and organizations. Some key contributors include Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn, who developed the TCP/IP protocol, a fundamental component of the Internet. Its development began in the late 1960s with the ARPANET project, which was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. It was orginally created to process communication and data transfer between research institutions and government agencies. 

    In its early days, the Internet was primarily used for research, military purposes, and academic communication. Today, the Internet is widely used for communication, information sharing, e-commerce, entertainment, social networking, and so much more! 

    As it follows, The World Wide Web (WWW) is a system of interconnected documents and resources linked through hyperlinks and URLs. It is a bit confusing, but it is a subset of the internet used for  sharing information. The World Wide Web was invented by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist, in 1989. The World Wide Web was initially used for scientific and academic purposes, allowing researchers to share documents and information.

    Comparing the Internet as a whole, and the World Wide Web, they are entirely different. The Internet is the global network, while the World Wide Web is a system of interconnected webpages and resources that reside ON the Internet. The World Wide Web is just one service that is on the Internet. They work together, as the WWW relies on the Internet's structure. The first ever website was created by Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web. Unfortunately, the original website is no longer available, but is considered an important historical milestone in technology. 

    Ever wonder who created bluetooth and WIFI? Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian-American actress and inventor. She invented a spread spectrum technology during World
War II, which was the foundation for  wireless communication technologies, including WiFi and Bluetooth. There is a song about Hedy Lamarr called "Hedy Lamarr" by The Moonlandingz, which celebrates her contributions to technology and her beauty as an actress. 

    Bluetooth technology was developed by Jim Kardach, an engineer at Intel, in 1994. It was named after Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson, the Danish king who united Denmark and parts of Norway in the 10th century. The logo is an orginal combination of the initials of Harald Bluetooth in Nordic runes.

    Lastly, WiFi technology was developed in the late 1990s by a group of engineers at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The term "WiFi" originally stood for "Wireless Fidelity," but it is now commonly used as a term for wireless networking technology. It was named by an advertising agency hired by the WiFi Alliance, the organization that promotes and actually certifies WiFi products!
